New Faculty Publications
Associate Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies Christopher B. Ansberry recently published a chapter in The Cambridge Companion to Biblical Wisdom Literature. Ansberry's chapter deals with The Book of Proverbs. The book overall is described as a study of the wisdom literature in the Hebrew Bible and the contemporary cultures in the ancient Near Eastern world and how it is evolving rapidly as old definitions and assumptions are questioned. Scholars are now interrogating the role of oral culture, the rhetoric of teaching and didacticism, the understanding of genre, and the relationship of these factors to the corpus of writings. The scribal culture in which wisdom literature arose is also under investigation, alongside questions of social context and character formation.
Professor of Biblical and Religious Studies Carl R. Trueman recently published a chapter in Social Conservatism for The Common Good: A Protestant Engagement with Robert P. George. Trueman's chapter is titled "Son of Thomas, Heir of Theoden Faith and Reason in The Work of Robert P. George." The work is described as a thorough introduction and careful analysis of George’s work for Protestant audiences with essays from high-profile evangelical writers and academics to explore subjects such as faith and reason, George’s New Natural Law theory, and how to collaborate across ideological lines. Social Conservatism for the Common Good helps Christian evangelicals understand George’s philosophy and apply it to their own cultural engagement and public witness.
