If you haven't chosen a major yet, use these rules of thumb to help you choose a citation guide to use for your synthesis essay.

  • Considering a major in the Humanities (e.g. English, Music, French), use MLA.
  • If you're leaning towards studying the Natural Sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry), use CSE.
  • And if you think you might be interested in one of the Social Sciences (e.g. Sociology, Economics, Political Science), use Chicago.
