Library Software Upgrade


What to Expect

The Grove City College Libraries will have a major system upgrade in late July. Here is what you need to know as this gets closer!

Use Catalog Lists? Take Action Now

  • If you have saved any lists of library materials to your account within the online catalog that you want to preserve after the upgrade, you should print or save these before July 17, 2024. See instructions in the "Saving Lists from the Online Catalog" section below.

System Transition July 18-22

  • During the system transition, you can still use the library catalog and Discovery, but resource availability information may not be up to date.
  • You will not be able to place holds or make renewals through the online catalog.
  • Your account information as displayed in the online catalog may not be accurate.
  • It is possible that some incorrect email notices may be sent out as the system switches over

We expect any transition issues to be minimal. The library will remain open for regular summer hours and staff can help with checkouts, returns, and all other services as normal. 

After July 22

  • Once the new system is vetted, a new online catalog URL will be posted and all links on the library and college websites pointing to the online catalog will be updated.
  • If you have the library catalog URL bookmarked, you will need to update that link.  All older versions of the library online catalog are being replaced. The links will continue work for a short time but information will not be accurate.

About the Upgrade

Library Software Upgrade

In July 2024 Henry Buhl Library will upgrade to a new library management platform. The software system that manages library collection and patron data as well as functions like library borrowing and course reserves will be changing, having a deep impact on library staff. This system supports all four libraries on campus.  

Upgrades to the library online catalog, often referred to as Henry, will be the most visible part of the change to library users.  There will be an entirely new Henry after this summer.

Why Upgrade?

An internal review completed in 2023 indicated a change was necessary to better support library functions, patron needs, and the library's strategic goals. This summer the library will change to Koha, an open-source product. Koha is a well-established library management system and is the most used library software in the world. The installation will be supported by ByWater Solutions, the premier service provider of Koha to libraries in the U.S. This new system will allow for greater control over the product, allowing the library to tailor the system to the needs of our patrons. This implementation also realizes long-term cost-savings, furthering the library's goal of careful stewardship of its resources.

1. Go to the online catalog.  


2. Click the “Log In” option in the upper right.

3. Log in with your college ID number and your PIN, which by default is the month and date (MMDD) of your birthday. If you cannot access your account, please contact the library for a PIN reset.

4. Once you log in, there is now a link to your account in the upper right. Click the drop-down arrow next to it and select “Saved Lists”.

5. Note all of the lists you have saved along the left.

6. Click on a list to open, and then click “Print List” on the right. From here you can print the list or copy it to paste elsewhere. [Note there are other options for viewing and sharing a list, but only “Print List” includes call number information.]

What's Coming

New Features

The online catalog will have a new look and feel while continuing to allow you to search and locate resources you need, place hold on items, renew your materials, and review your checkouts. 

In addition, you will notice:

  • Improved search and retrieval options, including the ability to limit results to only items currently available and the ability to search by publication date range
  • Improved capability to share catalog content, whether individual title records or lists of titles, with yourself and with others
  • Better representation of catalog data in the Discovery search tool, meaning more complete holdings information and more timely data updates about the library's physical collections there.
