Looking for more information? Try these search tips for locating additional information on the web. Example: Let’s say you’re developing a list of standards for childcare. Tip #1: Try searching for existing government or private standards at the county, state, or national level. You can use these as a starting point for developing your own list. Scenario: let’s say you’re looking for information on children in Argentina. Tip #2: If you read/speak the official language of the country you’re researching, try searching the web in both languages (e.g. children and ninos). Scenario: let’s say you’re looking for information on education in another country. Tip: #3: try to locate the website for the Ministry of Education or Department of Education for that country. Fact: Many countries do not keep the number of statistics that the U.S. keeps, or, if they do, those numbers are not available online. Tip #4: Try contacting people and/or government departments that can provide you with information or direct you to the appropriate party. OR identify a country with a population, size, and/or climate that is comparable to the one you are studying. Use their data to estimate the needs and statistics of your country of interest. Fact: Every search engine only covers a portion of the internet (even Google!). Tip #5: make sure you use at least 2 search engines to find as much as possible.
