The Research Process

Not sure where to start? Start with the Dictionaries & Encyclopedias tab to see where to locate relevant background information!

Why is this so important? Not only will you gather basic information on your topic (names, places, events, dates, etc) but 20 minutes of background reading can actually save you hours of research time (and may even prevent a headache or two...) as you progress further in your library research. By having an overall picture of your topic, you will also be able to decide how you want to progress with your thesis --- do you need to revise your thesis statement? (and it helps with learning the vocabulary of the subject as well as locate proper spelling..... most databases do not have a spell check feature!)
