Library Renovation Updates
As our Buhl Library renovation continues, here is your March update!
The space formerly known as The Large Reference Room reopened to students following spring break. The renovated space will now be called The Learning Commons. While we're still waiting on some furniture and other items to complete the space, there are 8 study rooms available for group work. The study rooms are currently on a first-come-first-serve basis but in the fall they will be on a reservation system. There is also a variety of seating throughout the greater Learning Commons space where you can work as well.
With that update, we turn the corner to the next part of the renovation which sees the closure of the Small Reference Room. When finished, this revamped space will include a cafe and a classroom for library instruction. Additionally, work is being done to renovate some library offices and create two new bathrooms on the main floor of the library.
Autism Awareness Project
The Autism Awareness Project is back for its seventh year and we hope you'll satisfy your sweet tooth for a good cause. Throughout the month of March, The Council for Exceptional Children group at Grove City College headed by Dr. Samantha Fecich is partnering with Buhl Library to raise money to support Gretchen Murphy's Special Education students grades K-8 at the Mohawk Area School District.
The CEC is selling six different kinds of Daffin's Candy Bars (Milk Chocolate, Pretzel, Almond, Caramel, Peanut Butter, and Crisped Rice) for $1 each in support of Autism Awareness. There will be candy bars for sale in both Buhl Library and the Curriculum Library as well as other spots on campus.
A Friendly Reminder About The Curriculum Library
We wanted to bring a friendly reminder to staff and students about The Curriculum Library located on the first floor of Staley Hall of Arts and Letters. The library is home to a host of materials that can be checked out by anyone at Grove City College and includes all sorts of children's books from Young Adult, chapter books, board books, and picture books of both fiction and non-fiction. The library is not only home to books but you can also find textbooks for education majors, puppets, and manipulatives for various hands-on learning activities.
The Curriculum Library hours are:
Monday - Thursday: 9 am - 10 pm
Friday: 9 am - 5 pm
Saturday: Closed
Sunday: 5 pm - 10 pm

New Faculty Publications
Professor Carl Trueman had The Claims of Truth: John Owen's Trinitarian Theology reprinted recently after it was initially published in 1998. In it, Truemen discusses "an analysis of the theology of John Owen and pays particular attention to his use of traditional trinitarian insights in order to stand against heterodox theologies of the seventeenth century."
Professor Jeffrey Bilbro had his writing featured in Breaking Ground: Charting Our Future in a Pandemic Year. In Bilbro's chapter Story, Culture, and the Common Good, he discusses his experience of being laid off from his previous university job during the Covid pandemic.
March Madness at the Library!
We are excited to launch a March Madness bracket competition at Buhl Library this year! We will provide empty brackets for you to fill out starting on Monday, March 14. You must make sure they are turned in to the circulation desk by Wednesday, March 16 to qualify for the challenge. Each correct matchup will earn you points throughout the tournament. The Top 5 earners in points will receive a prize package!
Library Rubber Duck Scavenger Hunt!
We realize midterms are a stressful time on campus so we want to bring some creative fun to the library! With that in mind, we are holding a scavenger hunt for rubber ducks throughout the library starting on Monday, March 14, and lasting until all the ducks are found. We will be hiding 12 ducks and each can be found twice for a total of 24 winners (You can only win a prize once). Once you find a duck, bring it up to the circulation desk and we will take your name down and contact you at the end of the scavenger hunt to pick up your prize package!

Step 1: Type in the search terms you are looking for. You might see results that look like this saying No Copies Available and Check Other Locations in parenthesis after it. Go ahead and click on Check Other Locations.
Step 2: After clicking on Check Other Locations you will see the book's status at The Curriculum Library.
Step 3: If you aren't looking for a specific book but a range of books, you can also personalize your search to browse only the Curriculum Library. After entering your desired search terms, on the left-hand side of the page is a box labeled Searching with 2 locations listed and the option to change. Go ahead and select Change.
Step 4: Once you hit the Change setting, it gives you the option to choose to browse the Buhl Library collection or the Curriculum Library collection. Go ahead and select Curriculum Library and hit Save.
Step 5: Afterwards the catalog will show what's available at the Curriculum Library for the search terms you used.
Swank Digital Campus
Swank Digital Campus offers a custom collection of streaming films that support curriculum in several GCC courses and programs. In addition, these films are available to all GCC students, faculty, and staff as long as the viewing is in accordance with the permitted usage below.
Permitted Usage
These streaming films are available to GCC for the purpose of research, teaching, and private study. Films may be shown in class or assigned to enrolled students to view outside of class. Individuals may watch films for their own research or educational benefit. However, these films have not been licensed with public performance rights. They cannot be viewed in groups for entertainment purposes.
Access
On your first visit to the Swank platform you will be asked to log in: use your GCC email and network password. The screen may flicker after you first log in.
Captioning and subtitles are available when offered by the content providers. To access captions and alternative audio options, click the "more" icon (3 vertical dots) at the bottom of the player window. When captions are available, they will be listed as English under the Subtitle heading.
