Find Statistics

Tips for Locating Statistics

Tips for locating additional statistics.

Tip #1: Search for organizations with a vested interest in your topic.

  • Sometimes these organizations gather the best information and stats.
  • Example: the Alzheimer's Association

Tip #2: If you can't find a statistic, estimate!

  • For some of your topics, you may only be able to locate national, state or county statistics.
  • But, you can make estimates for Grove City based on the data you can find.
  • Example: If I am looking for the number of people in PA that suffer from asthma, I can find PA's population (12,774,000) and how many Americans have asthma (8%) to estimate a number (1,021,920).

Estimating Statistics example

Estimating Statistics. Here’s an example: According to Statista, 13,199 people in Pennsylvania were homeless in 2019. And according to Explore Census Data, 12,807,060 is the estimated population of Pennsylvania in 2018. The estimate. I can divide 13,199 into 12,807,060 to determine the percentage of people who are homeless in PA: .001031%. And then I can multiply this is by current population of the Grove City area, 15,669, to find the estimated homeless population in Grove City. 16.15 people.
