Library Assessment Plan

Library Resources & Services Goals

A vital part of the Library's Mission is to "provide its students, faculty, staff, and administration with the resources necessary to support their educational needs and objectives." In order to accomplish this, Henry Buhl Library seeks to achieve the following goals with respect to Library Resources & Services:

Goal 1: Be the academic information center of the Grove City College campus

Goal 3: Provide assistance and appropriate resources to support scholars with their academic pursuits

In order to accomplish these library goals, the library has established the following objectives for providing Resources & Services:

  • Review library materials against usage to analyze the cost-effectiveness of resources for budgeting purposes
  • Review currently held library materials for relevancy to current and new curriculum offerings
  • Provide accurate, professional, and timely support and assistance through our service points

Interlibrary Loan Statistics

Description of Assessment

Database/E-Journal Usage & Return on Investment (ROI)

Description of Assessment Staff gather statistics on the use of individual subscription databases and e-journals. Costs of each resource are also examined and the cost per use is determined. If use is particularly low and/or if the cost per use is especially high, staff and departments are consulted to determine if the resource is necessary for the College's academic programs.
Responsibility Library Director; Serial Librarian; Library Reference Staff; Academic Departments (as needed)
Distribution of Results Library Director; Provost; L & T Committee, Board of Trustees; Library Reference Staff
Assessment Schedule Annually; reported each fall
Last Assessment Occurred Summer 2022
Changes Made Based on Assessment Data

Databases with low ROI may be canceled based on this assessment data.

Before purchasing any new journals, the cost of the journal is evaluated to determine if purchase or funded document delivery is the most cost efficient option.

Document Delivery Costs

Description of Assessment The Serials Librarian maintains records of all document delivery requests purchased by the library. These records indicate the total number and cost of each request. Annual totals are then used to make budgetary adjustments to the library's document delivery budget.
Responsibility Library Director; Serials Librarian
Distribution of Results Provost
Assessment Schedule Annually
Last Assessment Occurred Summer 2022
Changes Made Based on Assessment Data As the number of document delivery requests and their associated costs continue to decline, the library is able to allocate these funds to other areas of the budget the following year.

E-Reserve Costs

Description of Assessment The E-Reserves Coordinator maintains records of all e-reserve course readings provided by the library. These records indicate if the reading falls within the library's Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) Academic license and, if not, how much the reserve cost. Annual totals are then used to make budgetary adjustments to the library's permissions budget.
Responsibility Library Director; E-Reserves Coordinator
Distribution of Results Provost
Assessment Schedule Annually
Last Assessment Occurred Summer 2022
Changes Made Based on Assessment Data As the number of e-reserve readings that fall under the library's CCC Academic License grows, the total cost of permissions has dropped and allowed the library to allocate these funds to other areas of the budget the following year.

LibGuide / Web Page Usage
